Take a ride through cinema in Syros

This year, the island of Syros invites visitors to step into a world of nostalgia, storytelling, and cinematic history through a remarkable exhibition hosted at the Industrial Museum of Ermoupoli. Titled “The World in 35, 16, 8 mm… Cinema in 20th Century Syros”, the exhibition takes guests on a fascinating journey through the island’s cultural past, exploring how cinema shaped everyday life in Syros throughout the previous century.

Running until 30 November 2026, the exhibition features rare archival footage, vintage projection machines, photographs, and authentic memorabilia that bring old Syros back to life. Visitors can discover the island’s first screening venues, learn about the beginnings of film culture in Greece, and experience the atmosphere of another era through carefully curated stories and images.

Organised by the Municipality of Syros–Hermoupolis together with the Association of the Friends of the Hermoupolis Technological Culture Centre (KETEPO), the exhibition is part of the official celebrations for the 200th anniversary of Hermoupoli.

Visit the Industrial Museum and experience first hand why Hermoupolis has such a fascinating cultural history.
